“For the Taxpayer”
As a candidate for Selectman, my vision is to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community that honors our traditions while embracing opportunities for growth.
Goals
My goals center around the following priorities:
1. Revive Norwood Hospital
• Work to bring back Norwood Hospital to once again provide quality healthcare to residents and surrounding communities.
2. Require BOS Approval for Off-Budget Spending
• Implement policies to enhance accountability by requiring Board of Selectmen approval for any off-budget expenditures.
3. Eliminate CPA Tax
• Push to rescind the CPA tax and alleviate unnecessary financial strain on taxpayers. Alternatively, I will advocate for CPA grants to be applied exclusively to town-owned assets, ensuring that funds are allocated responsibly and for the direct benefit of the community.
4. Prevent Wastewater Enterprise Fund
• Challenge implementation of any Wastewater Enterprise Fund to prevent unnecessary spending.
5. Reduce Taxes and Fees
• Work to ease the financial burden on residents by identifying ways to responsibly reduce taxes
and fees.
6. Maintain High Quality Education, Recreation and Public Safety
• Insure Norwood remains such a wonderful place to live, and encourage families to enjoy our town and remain in Norwood.
Background
• Norwood resident and homeowner for 27 years.
• District 4 Town Meeting Member.
• Regular contributor to the Norwood Record, sharing opinions on local issues.
• Proud supporter of labor unions.
Family
• Married for 33 years to a retired Massachusetts public school teacher with 36 years of service.
• Father to 3 children, grandfather to 7 grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 3.
• Born in Newton and raised in Holbrook, MA.
Career
• 20 years in computer industry: engineering; purchasing; product management.
• 10 years in sales and marketing: startups; acquisition.
• 20 years Norwood handyman: home improvement; home repair.
By focusing on these goals and leveraging my experience, I aim to strengthen our town as a place where families, businesses, and individuals can thrive. Together, we can improve our resilient and welcoming community for generations to come.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** Steve Konetchy Announces Candidacy for Norwood Board of Selectmen "For the Taxpayer" - A Vision to Strengthen Norwood's Future Longtime Norwood resident, community advocate, and Town Meeting Member Steve Konetchy is proud to announce his candidacy for the Norwood Board of Selectmen. With over 27 years of dedication to the town and a track record of service, Steve’s campaign is centered on putting taxpayers first, fostering accountability, and ensuring Norwood remains a vibrant and thriving community for generations to come. “I believe Norwood can honor its rich traditions while prioritizing excellent education, recreation, and public safety,” Konetchy stated. “As Selectman, I’ll work tirelessly to ensure our town remains a welcoming place where families, businesses, and individuals can thrive.” Steve’s platform focuses on key priorities to strengthen Norwood’s future. One of his top goals is to advocate for the return of Norwood Hospital, ensuring that residents and neighboring communities once again have access to quality healthcare. He is committed to enhancing fiscal accountability by requiring Board of Selectmen approval for off-budget expenditures, ensuring transparency and prudent financial management. To address financial concerns, Steve proposes repealing the CPA tax as a means to alleviate the financial burden on taxpayers. Alternatively, he will advocate for CPA grants to be applied exclusively to town-owned assets, ensuring that funds are allocated responsibly and for the direct benefit of the community. Steve also plans to oppose the implementation of a Wastewater Enterprise Fund to prevent excessive spending, while seeking ways to reduce taxes and fees responsibly. At the same time, he remains dedicated to preserving the services that make Norwood a wonderful place to live—high-quality education, outstanding recreational opportunities, and robust public safety resources. Steve has a long history of professional and entrepreneurial success. He began his career in the computer industry, gaining 20 years of experience in engineering, purchasing, and product management before transitioning to sales and marketing for an additional decade. Forty years ago, Steve started his own computer repair business, where he honed his entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills. For 25 years, he operated his Norwood handyman business, Home Specialists, Inc. providing home improvement and repair services to the local community before retiring. His extensive professional experience equips him with a practical and solutions-oriented approach to leadership. Steve’s commitment to Norwood is grounded in strong family values. He has been married for 33 years to a retired public school teacher with 36 years of service. While his three children grew up in California, they have come to love Norwood during their visits and admire its welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Now a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and great-grandfather to three, Steve is passionate about preserving Norwood as a wonderful place for families to live, visit, and thrive. “Norwood is more than a town to me – it’s my home," said Konetchy. "I’ve raised my family here, with my children living bi-coastally between California and Norwood, built my career here, and I’m deeply committed to its future. Together, we can ensure Norwood remains a strong, inclusive, and fiscally responsible community.” Join the Campaign Steve Konetchy invites all Norwood residents to join him in building a better future. If you have questions, would like to volunteer to help with the campaign, or would like to donate to campaign expenses, please let him know. You can visit his website at www.konetchy.com or reach out via email at stevek.1@icloud.com. On April 7, I respectfully request you to vote for STEVE for Selectman! **For the Taxpayer ~ For Norwood ~ For You.**
Setting the Record Straight on Veterans Recently, my opponents have been spreading false and misleading claims that I am against veterans and want to shut down the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). Let me be clear: nothing could be further from the truth. These rumors originated during discussions surrounding the 2024 Vernon Street Veterans Housing Project hearings. Let me set the record straight—I am 100% in favor of supporting veterans. My objections were not about veterans but about the specifics of a bad business deal that did not serve Norwood’s best interests. Why I Objected to the Vernon Street Project To prevent future misuse of our CPC funds being granted to outside entities without sufficient oversight, I have called for the rescinding of the Community Preservation Act (CPA). Alternatively, I am advocating that CPA grants be applied exclusively to town-owned assets. This approach ensures that our funds are allocated responsibly and directly benefit the residents of Norwood. The Details of the Deal Caritas submitted an application to the CPC requesting $800,000 of Norwood’s CPA funds to help them purchase the Vernon Street building. However, under the terms of the deal: - The Town would have no ownership, no rights, and no involvement in the management or tenant selection. - Norwood veterans would not (at the time of the August Hearings) be prioritized over veterans from surrounding towns. My Actions in Opposition - June 20, 2024: I submitted an editorial opposing this deal, published in the Norwood Record (See link in Additional Content PDF on this site). - August 28, 2024: I voiced my objection during the CPC hearing. (See link in Additional Content PDF on this site) - October 24, 2024: I delivered a speech at the Fall Town Meeting, where I once again expressed my concerns. Watch the speech on my Facebook Page (See link in Additional Content PDF on this site). My Family’s Military Legacy Although my draft number was not called during the Vietnam War, I come from a proud family with deep military roots. My father served in WWII aboard the USS LST 72 on D-Day, June 5, 1944, where he made multiple round trips transporting soldiers and supplies between England and France. His service included: - 5 round trips to Gold Beach - 4 round trips to Juno Beach - 10 round trips to Omaha Beach - 7 round trips to Utah Beach - 2 round trips to the Cherbourg Peninsula - 4 round trips to Cherbourg - 2 round trips to Rouen Additionally, my uncles and grandfathers served in various wars. My 11th great-grandfather, Richard Warren, arrived on the Mayflower in 1620, and my family members have proudly served in the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, World War I, and World War II. I Fully Support Veterans Let me be clear: I have always supported and will continue to support veterans. My objections have never been about reducing support for veterans but about ensuring that town resources are used wisely and effectively. I will continue to fight for responsible decisions that benefit both our veterans and our community. On April 7, I respectfully request that you vote for STEVE for Selectman! **For the Taxpayer ~ For Norwood ~ For You.**
